Professor Peter Dettmar and Professor Jeffery Pearson, world renowned experts in pepsin, will present key papers on gastroesophageal reflux disease in an international journal.

Annals of Esophagus publishes leading-edge findings, techniques and opinions in all fields pertaining to the oesophagus.

As co-editors of the journal’s upcoming special issue, Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Modelling of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, Dettmar and Pearson will highlight studies on the prevalence of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), pepsin as a biomarker for self-diagnosing reflux, as well as the development of physiological models of gut function.

Other selected papers cover products targeting reflux in babies and infants, and the clinical aspects of reflux in patients attending an ENT voice clinic with extra-oesophageal manifestations of reflux disease.

Peter is the managing director of Technostics Limited and RD Biomed Limited, as well as the inventor of Peptest. While Jeffery is a Professor of Molecular Physiology at Newcastle University with more than 30 years’ experience in gastrointestinal physiology in particular digestive enzymology, drug delivery, functional foods and alginate based mucosal protectives.

Professor Dettmar said: “Reflux disease is both common and complex and requires a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis and treatment made even more relevant with the emergence of gastric pepsin as a biomarker for the diagnosis of reflux disease and the development of physiological models of gut function.

“It’s a great pleasure to be asked to co-edit this Special Series for the respected Annals of Esophagus alongside the excellent Professor Pearson.”
