RD Biomed Ltd has signed a five-year exclusive distribution agreement with The Reflux Company for PepsinCheck by Peptest in the US.
The gastroenterology community was introduced to the partnership at Digestive Disease Week (DDW), which took place from 4 to 6 May 2025 in Washington DC.
PepsinCheck featured at Booth 5159, where The Reflux Company also showcased its growing portfolio of reflux solutions to clinicians, researchers and healthcare innovators attending one of the world’s leading GI events.
A non-invasive diagnostic tool for reflux
PepsinCheck (internationally marketed as Peptest) is a CE-marked, immunological in-vitro diagnostic device that detects the presence of pepsin in saliva or sputum. As pepsin originates in the stomach, its detection in upper airway samples provides a strong biomarker for reflux events.
The test uses two pepsin monoclonal antibodies and has demonstrated validated performance measures of up to 95 per cent sensitivity and 89 per cent specificity in clinical settings. Its non-invasive, rapid format supports earlier identification of reflux and can also aid decision-making across a range of clinical presentations: from initial symptom assessment to post-surgical monitoring.
A new chapter for reflux diagnostics in the US
The Reflux Company, founded in 2025, is developing a focused platform for reflux diagnosis and treatment. PepsinCheck is its second commercial product, following a licensing agreement for the Reflux Band from the Medical College of Wisconsin. It has also reached an in-principle agreement to acquire select assets from Restech, including the Stretta and Restech pH product lines.
“Accurate diagnostics are the cornerstone of effective patient care and disease management,” said Thomas Ball, founder and CEO of The Reflux Company. “Peptest’s ability to provide a reliable biomarker test for reflux makes it invaluable to a range of patients from those first exploring their symptoms to complex presentations post-surgery.”
Harvey Dettmar, CEO at RD Biomed, also added: “We are delighted to continue our association with Thomas in the US market. This is an exciting opportunity for PepsinCheck under the Reflux Company with its innovative holistic approach to reflux disease.”
What’s next
The DDW meeting also provided a valuable opportunity to connect with gastroenterology professionals from across the globe and highlight PepsinCheck’s role in advancing reflux diagnosis.
Further product announcements from The Reflux Company are expected in the months ahead as its diagnostic and therapeutic portfolio continues to grow.
