Peptest is a ‘good screening test’ for medical professionals, such as GPs, allergists, ENT specialists, gastroenterologists and chest physicians, to detect laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR).
In a new study, published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine, Peptest helped detect laryngopharyngeal reflux with a 100 per cent specificity in a group of patients with suspected LPR.
Peptest also demonstrated a greater ability of diagnosing the condition than other non-invasive diagnostic methods, such as the Reflux Symptom Index (RSI) and Reflux Finding Score (RFS).
In addition, researchers noted the advantage of using Peptest in the Covid-19 era due to its non-invasive nature in comparison to flexible laryngoscopy or multichannel intraluminal impedance-pH testing (MII-pH) testing.
The Diagnostic Value of the Peptest in Detecting Laryngopharyngeal Reflux paper is authored by researchers based at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at the University Hospital of Ostrava in the Czech Republic.
They concluded that a positive Peptest is ‘highly supportive of a pathological LPR diagnosis’. Furthermore, it could serve as a screening test for physicians who cannot visualise the larynx, for whatever reason, in cases that do not require an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy or bronchoscopy.
